As you know, I'm usually pretty good about laying out nice detailed plans for my trips and then sticking to them. Therefore, I get annoyed if anything deviates from my plan unless, of course, my plan was to have a random day without any fixed plans. And yes, those are planned too!
Anyhow, I went back to Violy’s place and rebooked my tours. Since both tours were not available the following day, I split it up with the Pearl Harbor tour scheduled for the following day and the South Shore tour for the day after, which happens to be my day of departure. I wasn’t happy with it, but I had no choice.
After everything has been rebooked, and since I didn’t want to ruin the rest of my vacation, I decided to go shopping! Yes!!! What else can a girl like me do? And since I know the area very well by now, I went solo! Besides, I wanted Violy to rest so she’ll recuperate faster. After an entire morning of shopping, I went home to another sumptuous lunch prepared by Violy. Bliss!!!
I took it easy in the afternoon by catching up on my emails and facebook messages. And when Rory got home from work, I asked him to take me back to Waikiki.
As you know, when most visitors think of beaches in Hawaii, they think of the famous Waikiki Beach. One of the best known beaches in the world, Waikiki was the favorite playground of Hawaiian royalty in the 19th century. At the time, Waikiki was an area of wetlands fed by streams from the valleys above Honolulu. That all changed in the 1920s when the government decided to build what would become the Ala Wai Canal, which would drain the wetlands and pave the way for later development.
These days, this 1.5 mile stretch of white sand beach is the nucleus of Hawaii's tourist industry, packed full of high-rise hotels that promise to treat you like a king or queen, some of which may also require a king's ransom for admission.
As the tourist center of the Hawaiian Islands, Waikiki is most famous for its beaches and every room is just two or three blocks away from the sea. But there’s more to Waikiki than just the beach. Attractions like the Honolulu Zoo and the Waikiki Aquarium offer fun for the whole family. Most of all, Waikiki continues to be an evolving expression of the ancient spirit of aloha. On these famous shores, the past and the future are uniting in fresh and surprising ways.
A tour of Waikiki Beach is one of the best free things to do in Oahu. You can walk along the sandy coastline and explore the many different areas, or walk along the shop-lined streets and look for the best souvenirs or restaurants.
And that’s exactly what Rory and I did.

Thereafter, Rory and I called it a night and headed home where another sumptuous home-cooked dinner prepared by Violy awaited us.
